13-20

Fracti bello fatisque repulsi
ductores Danaum tot jam labentibus annis
instar montis equum divina Palladis arte
aedificant, sectaque intexunt abiete costas;
votum pro reditu simulant; ea fama vagatur.
Huc delecta virum sortiti corpora furtim
includunt caeco lateri penitusque cavernas
ingentis uterumque armato milite complent.

Having been shattered in war and repulsed by the fates
the leaders of the Greeks, now laboring for so many years, built a horse in the likeness of a mountain with
the divine skill of Athena, and they covered the sides with pine having been cut; they feinged an offering for a return home; this story spread abroad.
Inside the dark sides they stealthily included the bodies of men having been selected by lot and filled completely the large hollow and belly with armed soldiers.
